“Whatever occupies your mind the most becomes your God.” Unknown

Quite frequently today we hear of people who are passionate about a pursuit, an activity or a person, which in itself is not contrary to Christian theology. However we do know as Christians we should truly only be passionate about one thing – and that is God. We are warned in the scripture about false gods and idols, however for most people when they think of these they only think about the golden calf or wooden idol as referred to in the Bible and not the things that are our primary focus. What we think about the most and the things we give the most time, energy and resources to can become our passion, our false god or idol ! Recognizing the things is often difficult because many of them are on their face good things, but we must all all be on the alert for things that seem to be dominating our lives. If you are not sure if something is becoming too important, ask God for guidance and He will be more than willing to open your eyes! Also, old and young alike need to be reminded of “sheep’s clothing” as identified in Matthew 7:15 and remember a quote often credited to Billy Graham that goes something like this, “Show me your checkbook and calendar, and I’ll tell you what your values are”!
