“The Rose” Bette Midler
This Nana has loved roses all of her life! This love was a gift from her “Nannah”, who grew them next door and loved them as well. When I was a little girl she would quite frequently go out in the morning to clip several of her fragrant blossoms for me to take to my teachers! This entire scene was a demonstration of love to me; she loved the Lord, appreciated the fact that every bloom was a gift from Him, made each step on the soft wet grass cautiously because she loved me and taught me very early the blessings that come from sharing.
Some Biblical expositors see Christ as the “rose of Sharon” and in researching this descriptor, I found the following on Bible Gateways:
“Women love flowers. They love the way they look and smell – especially roses. I feel God wants us to have full realization of how special His Son Jesus is to us, and He is using the rose flower to compare His son with so we can truly appreciate the beauty and perfection of Jesus and the perfect love that He has for each and everyone of us.”
May you always remember when you hear this song, see a rose or sniff it’s fragrance that Christ has been referred to as the “Rose of Sharon”, that the rose is the most perfect flower and that your search for love can end with God! God is love!
Some say love, it is a river
That drowns the tender reed
Some say love, it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love, it is a hunger
An endless aching need
I say love, it is a flower
And you, its only seed the heart, afraid of breaking
That never learns to dance
It’s the dream, afraid of waking
That never takes the chance
It’s the one who won’t be taken
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul, afraid of dying That never learns to live When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun’s love
In the spring becomes the rose
