“Imagination is the greatest gift God has given us, and it ought to be devoted entirely to Him.” Oswald Chambers
The dictionary defines imagination as the ability to form a mental image of something not actually present to the senses; often determined by past experiences and things we have heard or learned. This very powerful gift, uniquely given by God to humans must be carefully guarded, because if it is not devoted to God is can easily be misused and misguided. Unfortunately, today, many of our young people have seen, heard or experienced many things that if imagined long enough can lead them to not only sinful thoughts, desires and actions but also loneliness and despair.
When asked to “close your eyes” and imagine, we are physically closing out reality but being grounded in God’s love and truth is the greatest protection from this gift being misused! Young people should be encouraged to think, as reminded in Philippians 4:8 …whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, it there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
God is good and his greatness abounds in nature, in the Bible and in the lives of His Saints!
