“A life without God is like an unsharpened pencil – no point” Billy Graham
“What is the chief end of man” is the first question in the Westminster Shorter Catechism and the answer is, “Man’s chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy him forever.” Over my lifetime, my Mother often reminded me of this question and answer in response to issues dealing with life’s challenges, rewards and focus. Now in my senior years I often think about it and especially with emphasis on three words; glorify , enjoy and he forever. We must glorify first before we can enjoy and forever has no time limits. It doesn’t matter how young or how old we are, life without God is without joy and is truly pointless! He made us and we belong to Him, but he gives us the choice to glorify or not. Oh how sad when someone says “it’s my life” and I will do with it what I want! There are 55 verses in the Bible about glorifying God that tell us the ways we can, but the “why” in Revelation 4:11 is certainly to the point, “Worthy are you, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed and were created.”
